The properties that actively love dogs

Topnotch Resort in Stowe leads — $75 pet fee flat, dog beds and bowls in the room, and a full dog menu from the restaurant. The Essex Resort near Burlington is $50/night with a welcome treat and a fenced play yard. Kimpton Taconic in Manchester charges nothing for pets, no weight limit, and lends leashes — one of only two no-fee options I know of statewide.

Budget-friendly pet stays

The Green Mountain Inn in Stowe village runs $35/night for pets and has walking loops out the back door. Comfort Inn & Suites in Rutland is $25/night, unpretentious, and useful as a base. Skip the chains that charge $150 'deep cleaning' after the fact — I always ask for the pet policy in writing before booking. Basin Harbor allows dogs in cottages only, $50/night, and there’s a swim beach for them at the north end.

Questions fréquentes

Any weight or breed restrictions?

Topnotch and Kimpton have none. Most historic inns cap at 40-50 lbs and two dogs per room. Always confirm — I have seen 'pet-friendly' properties refuse a Lab at check-in.

Can I leave my dog in the room?

Kimpton and Topnotch allow it if crated. Most Vermont inns do not, so plan on doggy daycare (Stowe and Burlington both have good options around $45/day).
