The top tier
Killington has the longest season, best lift network, and most terrain (1,509 acres). Stowe has the best snow and the most character but is on Epic Pass now — expect crowds. Jay Peak gets the most snow in the East (350+ inches) and has the shortest lift lines. Sugarbush’s Lincoln Peak-Mount Ellen combo is the sleeper pick — real terrain, real character, real independent ownership. Mad River Glen is Mad River Glen — single chair, no snowboarders, $95 lift ticket, and if you have to ask, don’t bother.
The mid-tier and value picks
Okemo is best for intermediate families. Stratton is the well-groomed weekender favourite from NYC. Bromley is south-facing, sunny, and family-perfect. Smugglers' Notch is family-first with real advanced terrain hidden behind it. Skip Suicide Six and the small hills unless you’re staying nearby anyway. Bolton Valley is the local underdog worth a mid-week trip — $79 tickets and legitimate glades.
