Middlebury wraps around a 20-foot waterfall on Otter Creek — Vermont’s longest river — with the college’s free art museum, the Vermont Folklife Center and the Marble Works district all within an easy walk. Just outside town, the UVM Morgan Horse Farm keeps America’s first native breed.
Lake, gap & history
West lie Lake Champlain and the Maritime Museum at Basin Harbor; east climbs the Middlebury Gap to Robert Frost’s woods and the Bread Loaf campus. In between are Snake Mountain’s valley views, Lake Dunmore’s beaches and the Underground Railroad history of Rokeby Museum.
