Getting there and around
About fifteen miles east on US-4, which is twenty to twenty-five minutes in good weather and considerably longer in a storm. The road climbs steadily to Sherburne Pass, so winter tyres or all-wheel drive are a sensible precaution. The Amtrak Ethan Allen Express calls at the downtown depot with a daily service south to Albany and New York, and north to Burlington. It is one of the few Vermont towns where arriving without a car is realistic, though you will want one to reach the mountains.
When to go
Winter is for skiing, with the drive over Sherburne Pass on US-4 taking considerably longer in a storm.
