Getting there and around
Killington sits where US-4 meets VT-100 in central Vermont, about 15 miles east of Rutland and 20 miles west of Woodstock. Burlington International (BTV) is roughly two hours north, and Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express stops in Rutland, from which a taxi or resort shuttle covers the last stretch. Driving is the norm, but if you stay on the Access Road you can park the car and use the in-season shuttle for lifts and evenings out.
When to go
Killington usually opens earlier than anywhere else in the East, sometimes in October on a single manmade trail, and closes later, frequently into May on Superstar. The reliable full-mountain window is roughly late December through early April. Summer brings downhill biking, the gondola and adventure parks, and fall brings some of the state's best foliage; many access-road restaurants and shops close or cut hours between the ski season and the bike season, so check before you count on a particular place.
