Downtown Bennington around Main Street is the choice if you want restaurants and the museum on foot; Old Bennington, up the hill by the monument and Old First Church, is a handful of quiet historic streets with no services of its own. The roadside and chain lodging strung along US-7 north of town and VT-9 heading east is the cheapest option and the easiest for an early start toward Mount Snow or Stratton, at the price of walking nowhere. North Bennington, five minutes out past the college and the covered bridges, is the compromise: village atmosphere, still close in. Rates only really tighten around Bennington College graduation and the peak October weekends.

What is the nearest airport?
Albany International in New York is the practical choice at roughly an hour by road, and it usually beats Burlington on both price and drive time. Hartford’s Bradley and Boston Logan are both around two and a half to three hours.
Is Bennington a good base for skiing?
It works for the southern mountains: Mount Snow is around 45 minutes east on VT-9, and Stratton and Bromley are within an hour north. Room rates here are typically well below on-mountain lodging, at the cost of a daily drive over the pass, which can be slow after snow.
