Eastham is about 100 miles from Boston and 80 miles from Providence, reached by car on Route 6 (Mid-Cape Highway) via exits 12 or 13, with Plymouth and Hyannis on the way. There is no train or major airport in Eastham; the nearest airport is Cape Cod Gateway Airport in Hyannis, about 30 miles away, and the nearest train stations are in Hyannis or Providence. Once here, a car is useful for beaches, restaurants and neighbouring towns, though the Cape Cod Rail Trail is popular for cycling. Local buses serve the area, and taxis and ride-sharing are available but limited.
When to go
Summer, from June to August, is the busiest stretch, with warm weather and every attraction open. Spring, May to June, and fall, September to October, bring milder temperatures, fewer crowds and the best conditions for cycling and hiking. Winter, November to April, is quiet and many businesses close, but the beaches and trails stay open for walking and birdwatching.
